Is RenderBuddy free during the beta?
Yes. RenderBuddy is free while it's in beta, with every Pro feature included. The prices on this page are the ones we plan to charge at launch, and paid plans aren't open yet. Downloads and the store apps are coming soon, and launch news goes to the Discord first.
What counts as a machine?
A PC running the RenderBuddy Agent, paired with your phone. Rendering in Unreal, Houdini and Blender on the same PC still counts as one machine. Free covers one machine. Pro covers as many as you pair.
What do I get on the Free plan?
One machine, a push when a render starts, finishes or fails in Unreal Engine, Houdini or Blender, the render's status in the app (rendering, stopped or finished), and 10 low-resolution previews of the current frame a month. That's enough to stop walking back to your desk to check. Pro adds the alerts for what goes wrong in between (black frames, an app that stops responding, a PC that drops offline), live progress and machine load, previews with no monthly limit, and stop and start from your phone, on every machine.
Can I switch between monthly and yearly, or cancel?
Pro is planned as a subscription you can pay monthly or yearly. We'll explain how switching and cancelling work before paid plans open, here and on the Discord.
Does it work on Mac or Linux?
Not yet. The Agent runs on Windows 10 and 11 (64-bit) today, on both plans. Mac and Linux are on the roadmap. Tell us on the Discord which one you need. The phone app is for iPhone and Android.
Does RenderBuddy upload my scenes or project files?
No, on either plan. RenderBuddy sends the state of your render, like progress and frame numbers. On Pro it also sends your machine's load. On both plans it sends a small preview of the current frame when you ask for one. When you pair by scanning the QR code, that preview is end-to-end encrypted, so only your phone can open it. Your .uproject, .hip and .blend files never leave your PC. More on privacy and security.
